Chelsea manager Andre Villas Boas has stated that he feels Barcelona’s dominance over European football is coming to an end, as other teams on the continent improve.
The Catalan giants have been the top team in the game in Europe over the last five years, winning the Champions League on three separate occasions and delighting fans with their exciting and expansive style of play.
However, the Premier League coach feels that Pep Guardiola’s side may be in line for a fall, as other clubs develop better talent.
“These past years of Barcelona’s success has collided with a multitude of events that has provided this team with the ability to play so well,” he stated in a press conference.
“The amount of talent which came through their youth teams which comes together now in the first team, a manager that defends the values of the club like nobody else…
“These past four or five years of Barcelona will be, for sure, the exception. Eventually, there are years of better talent (elsewhere) and years of drought,” he stated.
Barcelona currently sit on top of La Liga and their Champions League group, and despite Villas Boas’ claims will be the team to beat in Europe this season.
